The Red-whiskered Bulbul is native to India and Burma. They escaped the pet trade in the 1970’s and established a SoCal population that started in Arcadia and slowly expanded through much of Southern California. I photographed this example at the LA Arboretum in Arcadia, CA.
The Scaly-breasted Munia is another highly popular cage bird. They’re native to Southeast Asia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. They’re highly adaptable and hardy and have spread into many corners of the world, including Southern California
