When I woke up at three AM this morning thinking about the nomination of Emil Bove I knew I was in deep trouble and in need of some serious head cleansing. So I packed up my bike and camera gear this morning and headed to Cattaraugus and the Pat McGee trailhead. This 12.1-mile one way trail in Cattaraugus County connects the city of Salamanca and village of Cattaraugus. It’s a multi-use trail along a former rail bed and has connections with the current Finger Lakes Trail and the North Country Trail, which provide links to Allegany State Park in New York State and Allegany National Forest in Pennsylvania. The odometer on my bike read a little over 25 miles when I got back to my Jeep so I must have taken a little side trail. If anyone was to ask me, which they aren’t, I’d say instead of selling off our public lands to the highest bidders to enrich one more millionaire, or spending billions of tax dollars terrorizing US citizens, we need more of this. Public spaces given back to the people. Green spaces for people to enjoy, places to breathe and improve our quality of life. But what do I know.
