When I first started photographing birds I was happy just to get a sharp, well exposed image. So much attention went into that effort that I didn’t really think about the whole picture. lighting, background, and environment all came later in the process. Lately I’ve been experimenting with different perches in the backyard in order to create something a little more interesting, dare I say, artistic. I’ve also been paying much more attention to the colors in the background. The colors here are from a Japanese Maple and also the autumn leaves on the ground.
