I’ve been trying to get a decent shot of the male cardinals in the yard but they tend to feed on the ground and when they are in the branches they bury themselves deep so it’s hard to get a clean shot. Taking advantage of the last bit of sun and a perch I had set up earlier in the week paid off this afternoon. With the sun coming in over my shoulders, the shrubs behind the perch were lit up perfectly. All I needed was my cardinal. After about 2 hours of watching chickadees and juncos hopping on and off this branch, the male cardinal finally landed and gave me about 8 shots before jumping down to the ground.
