This would be only the second time I’ve tried photography from a kayak. The lagoon at Beaver Island State Park is relatively calm which helps keep things steady.
This juvenile probably left the nest 2-3 weeks ago and now needs to learn how to fish. They can still be heard calling out from the nest in hopes that one of the adults will do the fishing for them. This young bird stole the fish from the nest and carried it over to this snag to finish the meal away from it’s siblings. I found that if I approached the birds indirectly and then drifted past them they paid little attention.
