Baldwin Lake at the Los Angeles Arboretum is only about a 20 minute drive from my daughter’s house in southern California. I made the trek three separate mornings to shoot Hooded Mergansers as they went about their morning feeding diving and catching crayfish. It’s hard to imagine they can identify the crayfish by sight in the brackish water but they would usually come up with a catch after 2 or 3 attempts.
