The Rappahannock River flows about 195 miles from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. Around this time each year, and for around three to four weeks, American Shad begin their journey upstream to spawn. They make it as far as Falmouth Virginia where Osprey take advantage of the great number of fish before heading further north to nest. This Shad run lasts about three to four weeks and presents a perfect opportunity for Osprey photography.
