The sun rises at 6:55 this time of year. If I leave the house at 5:45 I can get to this spot by 6:30. My kayak fits in the back of my van so it takes no time to slip it out and I can be on the water 15-20 minutes before the sun comes up. The last two mornings I’ve found this Great Blue Heron already fishing but unfortunately he’s stopped both times just as the sun was rising. Something to do with reflections on the water and spotting the prey ? I don’t think it has anything to do with me being there as I keep my distance so as not to flush him out and he seems very intent on fishing and pays me little to no attention. Possibly just coincidence but there’s usually a reason for everything in nature.
Notice the dramatic change in detail and coloring of the bird with the addition of light.
