May 18th 2018, there I was sitting in my backyard watching and photographing the usual suspects: Bluejays, a Gray Catbird, and a Rose-breasted Grosbeak, all showing up for me on this particular day.

Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye I see a brilliant flash of blue. My first thought was a Bluebird. But when I brought the bird into focus, it was my first Indigo Bunting! A bird I’d never seen before anywhere and here he was in my backyard. And even more than just fortunate, I happened to be set up to capture him. He only stuck around for a few quick shots before moving on but it was such a joy to view this beautiful, little bird if only for an instant.
